Pumpkin Spice Dirty Chai Latte
This drink. Today is the first day of fall and this drink is what I’m loving. The ‘dirty chai’ refers to the fact that there’s both coffee and chai tea in there. Lots of spices that whisper fall, a hint of sweetness, and comforting warmth in a cup.
It starts with milk. I use almond milk. I heat up a cup with chai tea bag. I use the Trader Joes spiced chai tea bags. Just the smell when I open that box. Seriously. I usually prefer loose teas but that TJ spiced chai is fab.
While that steeps I put coffee, maple syrup, pureed pumpkin, and spices in a mason jar. When the tea is done I remove the bag and add the tea steeped milk to my jar.
When I’m feeling lazy, I put a lid on and shake it up. Done!
When I want to savor it, I go the extra mile with one of these things and froth it up a bit.
See the difference?
Can you tell how old that stick blender is? 17 years. Do I know the age of all my small applicances? No. But that was a wedding present, and my anniversary is next week. It’s one of the few wedding gifts that’s lasted this long.
Anyway, top with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice if you like. Coconut whipped cream if you’re paleo or vegan.
Come get your liquid hug.

- Place the 1 cup milk in a microwave safe dish or a small saucepan and add the chai tea bag. Heat until hot and then let the tea bag steep for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, Combine hot coffee and everything else except whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice in a mason jar. If your coffee isn't hot, you can combine them and then heat.
- When the tea is done steeping, add it to the chai coffee mixture and put a lid on it. Shake vigorously. Pour into mug and top with optional whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. If you want it frothier, use a blender or immersion blender to froth up the whole mixture instead of shaking it.
*This is a very light pumpkin flavor. You can use more puree if you like. I chose not to because the more pumpkin puree you add the more of a grainy texture your latte will be. If you don't mind the texture and want more flavor, add more!
